Aerial view of UC Santa Cruz campus with Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the city of Santa Cruz as backdrop

The main UCSC campus is spectacularly located at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking Monterey Bay—the country's largest National Marine Sanctuary and one of the world's most diverse marine ecosystems. The main UCSC campus houses the headquarters of the Institute of Marine Sciences, offices and common marine analytical laboratories, and many of the Institute's affiliated faculty and researchers.
